Plecos and L Numbers (various species of plecostomus) require a 75+ gallon tank, as they can grow large, with a pH of 6.5-7.5 and a temperature of 72-82°F. They prefer a soft substrate, plenty of hiding spots (like caves and driftwood), and some plants. Most plecos are peaceful but can be territorial, especially as they mature. Their diet includes algae wafers, sinking pellets, and vegetables like zucchini or cucumber. Regular 20-30% water changes are essential to maintain good water quality, as they can produce a significant amount of waste.
